The Little Stitcher ~ Saint Lucy's Day
One of the most magical nights is the Saint Lucy’s Day eve, on December 13th. In the houses of Sweden, Norway and Finland, early in the morning, when the dark is still deep, the little girls and the little boys wake up and, headed by the older girl crowned with bright candles, bring breakfast to their parents, in a sweet light given by the candle flames. Then, during the day, a maiden chosen for her beauty, visits the homes with a candles crown on her head, bringing light and blessings.
Saint Lucy is a reminiscence of the ancient and luminous female goddesses, who brought luck and blessings to the fields and houses during the winter solstice festivities.
